Guiding Philosophy
Discovery should use grants to advance the school's strategic plan, not to chase whatever funding happens to be available. The starting point should always be the same: identify what we want Discovery to become, then pursue outside funding where it can accelerate that work.
That means using grants to expand the campus, increase enrollment and student services, strengthen academics, make Discovery an exceptional place to teach, deepen place-based learning, improve student life, reduce operating costs, and test new ideas before they become permanent obligations.
The main guardrail is sustainability. Temporary funding should not create permanent costs that the school cannot support later. A healthy portfolio should combine a small number of large, strategic relationships with a dependable layer of program grants and a steady flow of smaller awards that staff can pursue efficiently.
