Technology should support teaching, operations, accessibility, safety, and specialized learning without increasing screen time simply because funding is available. Discovery is intentionally leaning away from unnecessary student screen use, so this category should focus on tools that improve instruction or efficiency rather than technology for its own sake.

Why This Category

Discovery does have ordinary replacement needs, including Chromebooks. But the more interesting opportunity is technology that supports making, science, exploration, differentiated instruction, accessibility, and student creation.

What Falls Under It

Teacher & Staff Technology. Laptops, workstations, presentation tools, collaboration tools, and other technology that makes educators and staff more effective.STEM & Maker Technology. Robotics, coding, engineering, fabrication, lab equipment, and other hands-on tools.Field & Environmental Technology. Sensors, microscopes, probes, cameras, mapping tools, and equipment used for science and place-based learning.Accessibility & Classroom Infrastructure. Connectivity, assistive technology, audio/visual systems, and other tools that improve access and classroom function.Systems & Replacement. Back-office, data, assessment, enrollment, family communication, security technology, and restrained student-device replacement tied to real instructional need.
