Grant Strategy

Innovation & New Models

A portion of the grant strategy should remain available for ideas that sit beyond the current operating plan but are consistent with Discovery's mission and long-term direction. This category creates a funding frame for pilots, new models, and larger experiments that could shape the school's future.

Why This Category

National education philanthropy is paying attention to school choice, alternative models, place-based and experiential learning, microschools, student-centered design, and whole-school innovation. Discovery will not fit every opportunity, and we should not contort ourselves to do so. But when a funder is looking for something unusual, we should at least be in the room.

What Falls Under It

Whole-School Innovation. Prizes and grants that support differentiated school models, redesign, or significant educational innovation.Pilots & R&D. Funding for new instructional models, satellite cohorts, redesigned grade bands, new services, or other concepts that Discovery wants to test before scaling.Flagship Programs. Larger STEM, environmental, academic, or experiential initiatives that may attract national or industry funders.Alternative Models. Microschool, hybrid, learning-pod, after-hours, or satellite concepts worth tracking as the funding landscape evolves.Flexibility & Designation. Indiana Innovation Network School recognition or other structures that may create additional flexibility, partnerships, or funding opportunities.
