Why This Category

The strongest capital story is one that increases capacity while making Discovery more distinctive, experiential, environmentally thoughtful, and attractive to families. We should also look aggressively for projects that lower the long-term cost of operating the campus, especially where those investments line up with Discovery's environmental roots.

What Falls Under It

Campus Expansion. New buildings, additions, major renovations, and long-range site planning tied to enrollment growth, instructional needs, and student services.Learning Spaces. Outdoor classrooms, science and maker spaces, natural play areas, gardens, trails, gathering areas, athletics/activity space, and flexible instructional environments.Core Facilities. HVAC, roofing, accessibility, water management, insulation, lighting, electrical systems, and other major infrastructure needs.Safety & Security. Entry improvements, doors, visitor management, communications systems, and other physical-security investments.Capacity Growth. Additional classrooms, specialized learning areas, student-service space, offices, storage, and other facilities needed to serve more students well.Energy & Sustainability. Solar, wind where practical, battery storage, geothermal, energy monitoring, efficiency upgrades, and other projects that reduce long-term utility costs while reinforcing Discovery's environmental identity.
